The virtual Institute Planning Meeting begins next Monday, 11 May.

The “tagline” for the IPM is “Ideas that Pay” and the aim is to

  1. Promote a broader understanding of the science that we do, and
  2. Build linkages to create scientific ventures that attract resources, affectively address livestock development issues, and build our reputation as a premier institute.

The virtual platform is a website where participants will be able to a) watch presentations b) make comments on the presentations that all can see and c) initiate breakout discussions to generate ideas. Registration for the site will be very simple. The virtual nature means that staff can watch the presentations and give input at any time. In Addis and Nairobi, as well as in any regional or country office that wishes to organise it, a room will be reserved at a specific time for face to face viewing and discussion of the presentations.

Be prepared to spend 2 to 3 hours PER DAY viewing the day’s presentations, making comments, and discussing new ideas. It is really important that staff commit to participating in the IPM to make this a success. (Note that presentations will be quite short, and aimed at stimulating feedback from you. )

Schedule:

Day 1 (Monday 11 May): Opening remarks from Jimmy Smith and Iain Wright; presentations by BECA and PTVC. Comments on the programmes begin; and idea generation begins.

Day 2 (Tuesday 12 May): presentations by Vaccine Biosciences, LSE and ASSP. Comments on these programmes begin; idea generation continues.

Day 3 (Wednesday 13 May): presentations by LGI, FSZ and Animal Biosciences. Comments on these programmes begin; idea generation continues.

Day 4: Ideas for cross-programme collaboration are summarised and presented on the virtual platform. Top FIVE will be selected on the basis of “Likes” (voting on the virtual platform)

Day 5: top ideas presented at FMC in Addis, Nairobi and on the virtual platform.

Preparation: staff should please familiarise themselves with the ILRI strategy and science plan, and the new CGIAR SRF.
